Toby

The only dog I ever had as a child was a Samoyed and I fell in love with the breed. I've always had at least one Sammy during my entire adult life. I bought Toby from a breeder out in Florida after a lot of research. He's got a very impressive pedigree and by all rights should have the bearing of a champion.

Toby is a little goof. He constantly has this stupid grin on his face and this long ol' tongue that he can't seem to keep in his mouth. He's completely fearless and goes charging into trouble, completely confident that mom will rescue him if he gets in over his head. He's been known to splash all of the water out of his dish, then go running across the wet tile. Of course he ends up careening like an out of control hockey puck. But he picks himself up and goes running back the other way.

Toby is impossible to discipline. He's not a bad boy, he just has no concept of the fact that there are things he shouldn't do. If you try to yell at him, he just grins up at you, oblivious to the concept of displeasure.

Everyone who meets him comments that he's the happiest little creature they've ever seen. Every moment of his life is spent in pure doggy joy. He loves waking up in the morning, he loves his breakfast, he loves playing with his toys, he loves napping in the afternoon, he loves going to bed at night, and every moment in between. There is nothing subtle or complicated about him.

There are times when I will hear him in the other room playing with Daisy, our other dog. I'll hear toys squeak, little barks and growls, little feet running around, and the general sounds of a couple of big dogs having a grand time. Then I'll spot Daisy on the floor at my feet and realize that Toby is in the other room alone, playing by himself, and having a grand time. Just because no one feels like playing with him, it doesn't mean he can't have fun!

He's nothing like what I could ever even have imagined when I set out to get a pure breed Samoyed, but he's just perfect none the less.
